Bonassola

Born before 1000, seems to have origin from Tigullian, ancient Ligurian population comes from Greek. The story of Bonassola is characterized by 'Instrumento de la cumpagnia de Bonassolla, a document of 1569 that there is a first form of civil aid kind in Italy, with the aim of freeing men bonassolians captured by the Turks who at that infest the Mediterranean coast. The relationship between the people and the sea has affected the economy of the place: in 1800 the country had a fleet of sailing ships that crossed the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, and the inhabitants found in the seafaring trade and wealth luck. Among its most ancient monuments are the Castle and the Tower of Ardoino (sec. XVI), the parish church of St. Catherine (seventeenth century) and the birthplace of Matthew Vinzoni famous cartographer of the seventeenth century.
